This message is for the race promoter who seems to stop by fairly often. Since I am a unorganized slacker, would it be possible to do a "will call" or some such thing for the race? The reason is that I don't have the proper paperwork to get into Canada so the pre-reg is a gamble that I will be able to get in the country. Thanks!

You should have trouble getting into Canada.
We don't have the passport requirement you guys do... Razz
You might have trouble getting back home though.

If you show up on race day morning to register I'm sure we can get you signed up, you just might have to pay an extra fee though as we normally don't do day of registration for our races because of the hassles with our registration and timing system.

Well, my brother called a border patrol person and he said that if I can get into Canada then I'm home free. Apparently Canada will turn me around if they find I don't have the proper paperwork. Getting back into the USA will just incur some extra questioning most likely.

Dave,
My friend with Border Patrol at the Rainbow Bridge advises that as long as you merely apply for the EDL and have the interim paper copy, that is sufficient for US border crossings. I guess that doesn't help the "slacker" who can't find the documents needed for the EDL Wink

well... with all due respect it is the USA that put travel restrictions in place not Canada.

Travel info is on Government of Canada's website.

When you enter Canada, a CBSA officer may ask to see your passport and a valid visa, if one is necessary. If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, as well as photo identification. If you are a permanent resident of Canada or the U.S, you should bring your Permanent Resident Card with you.

wow... I can see why Ben doesn't want to go through this, thats a lot of documents, but I've got it figured out like this:

1)Driver Liscence
2)Social Security card (hope I can find that... =/)
3)Birth Certificate
4)One of my w-2 forms (guess working on the books for a couple months actually will end up benefitting me... till I have to pay the stupid NYS tax which I always owe on)

(sorry for not cursing... Trying to cut back on it.)

I tried to go but I was detained at the border. I decided that it would cut into the mileage I'd be able to get for the day since they said they'd stop pre-rides at 9:45a. So, I aborted and came home and did a nice little 26 mile snowmobile trail ride. Nice workout really.

I would also like to hear a race report!

P.S. I'm seriously considering a pugsley for next winter!

Great job by the Short Hills Cycling Club putting on a fun event. The clear skies and cold temps made for great trail conditions. I was having so much fun, I did two laps! The second lap was "exciting", all the snow was brushed off the frozen ground making the trail quite slick in many places. I managed to keep it on two wheels!

wow... what a great day of racing.
I think we can say the race was a complete success and that the SHCC has official set the new standard for winter mountain bike racing in Niagara.
The course and weather could not have been better. The turn out was terrific and the venue spot on.
We even had a celebrity appearance by the infamous demonio from the south El Nino!!!

seen here attempting his patented El Rollo...

For those that came out to test your mid-winter racing skills thank you very much.
Without the hardcore riders we could not have an event like this.
For many yesterday was their first experience on the trails in Port Colborne and we hope to see you all (and your friends) for the BIG show in August the CDMBR.
